Creating Imagery Layers
Using the same imagery processing services Google uses for our consumer Google Earth and Maps products, and with access to thousands of CPUs at the push of a button, Google Earth Builder will create seamless, blended imagery layers from your imagery. Google Earth Builder supports ESRI JP2, MrSID, GeoTiff, JPEG file formats.
Creating Vector Layers
Using the same layer rendering infrastructure Google uses to serve tiles to our consumer Google Maps and Google Earth products, Google Earth Builder lets the map editor create and serve styled layers from their vector data. Google Earth Builder supports ESRI Shapefiles, MapInfo Tabfiles, CSV, KML, KMZ file formats.
ACCESS VIA APIs
Google Earth Builder exposes maps through several Google APIs for developers to embed in custom software or websites.
Google Maps API - Google provides a Google Maps Javascript API that makes it possible for developers to authenticate and access GEB maps and layers, which they can display on top of a Google Maps API application.
Google Earth API - The latest Google Earth API makes it possible for developers to authenticate and access Google Earth Builder maps and layers, which they can display on top of a Google Earth API application.
SHARING & ACCESS CONTROLS
Google Earth Builder relies on Google Accounts and OAuth2 to let you determine who can access your map data, layers and maps. As a map editor you can control access to your data and maps by specifying which Google users or Google Groups can authenticate to access them.
Google Earth Builder has separate role types for who can upload data into your account and create and publish maps with it, from who can view your published maps and/or access them via APIs.
ACCESS FOR APPLICATIONS
Google Earth Builder can publish maps for direct access by users of Google Earth for desktop and Android, through a Google Maps-based web-viewer, and through an easily embeddable map-widget.
Google Earth Client - Users of the Google Earth Free & Pro clients can access Google Earth Builder Maps from an embedded map gallery once they’ve signed into Google Earth with their Google Accounts.
Google Earth for Android - Like Google Earth for desktop, users who download the free Google Earth client from the Android marketplace can log in with their Google Accounts and access all maps that are available to them.
Google Maps-based Viewer and Embeddable Widget - Users can view public and private GEB maps as a widget on third-party sites or from a web-based Google Maps-like viewer, right from their browser.
