Statistics Canada is releasing the 2011 Census in a set of four data sets between February 2012 and November 2012. These data sets include information on Canada's population covering the nations's demographic, language, and dwelling characteristics.
The census is a national survey, which gathers information about the people in Canada, including Canadian citizens, landed immigrants, and non-permanent residents. The census also counts Canadian citizens and landed immigrants who are temporarily outside Canada on Census Day.

The Census data is described using the following layers of geography: Nation, Procinces & Territories, Census Divisions (CD), Cesnsus Subdivisons (CSD), Census Metropolitan Areas (CMA), Census Agglomerations (CA), Census Tracts (CT), Federal Electoral Districts, Forward Sortation Areas (FSA), Dissemination Areas (DA).
