The Solution

With Korem's help, EMD-Batimo combined Environics Analytics demographic data with Alteryx Designer and MapInfo, building a powerful and scalable analytical infrastructure that automates processing, enriches its models, and optimizes strategic decision-making.

Objective: Maximize profitability by selecting optimal locations and project characteristics based on thorough market analysis.

The Client

Industry: Real Estate

Employees: 95

Founded: 1994

Location: Quebec, Canada

EMD-Batimo designs, develops, and manages a diverse portfolio of real estate projects, ranging from multi-residential complexes to retirement homes and social and affordable housing. The company oversees every phase, from conception to construction and day-to-day management. This integrated approach, enhanced by long-term partnerships, maximizes the quality and profitability of each project while minimizing risk.

Through strategic use of data and artificial intelligence tools, they can anticipate market trends and offer spaces tailored to the real needs of communities (project types, sizes, prices, locations, services offered). Their current portfolio includes 60 residential projects totaling more than 10,000 housing units, with a real estate value of $3.2 billion.

The Challenge

A limited mapping platform

In the midst of rapid expansion, EMD-Batimo needed to strengthen its ability to analyze the real estate market, identify promising investment sites, and optimize the planning of new projects.

Before collaborating with Korem, the company used a generic mapping platform that was inflexible and limited in terms of data processing and data cross-referencing. Teams were unable to freely select their information sources or adapt them to market conditions. Manual processing of large volumes of data lengthened analysis times and introduced the risk of errors. Although Alteryx was already part of their technology environment, it was underutilized.

The company wanted to move towards a solution capable of integrating multiple data sources on a large scale, updating them regularly, and continuously refining its analysis models to support strategic decision-making. Automating manual and repetitive processes was also essential to improving operational efficiency.

The solution & Results

A scalable analytical infrastructure

Korem assisted EMD-Batimo in setting up a modern analytical ecosystem based on the ETL Alteryx Designer for data flow manipulation, modeling, and automation, and the GIS Precisely’s MapInfo Pro for geospatial visualization and territorial analysis. Combined with their internal data, EMD-Batimo uses demographic data from Environics Analytics (DemoStats & HouseHoldSpend), resold by Korem.

This integrated approach gives EMD-Batimo great flexibility to test new models, continuously improve their analyses, and simulate different investment scenarios to more accurately assess the potential profitability of projects. This allows the company to quickly adjust its strategies in line with market developments.

“We use Korem's services to obtain external information that could feed into our solutions and fill data gaps. The team provides us with ideas, solutions, and data that would be difficult to obtain otherwise.”

Comprehensive support from Korem

Korem supported the EMD-Batimo team in several key areas:

  • Advice on data and tool acquisition
  • Configuration and integration of Alteryx and MapInfo
  • Addition of an AI module in Alteryx, accompanied by a dedicated training
  • Ongoing support during the license term, including the search for new data and functionality opportunities.

The integration of artificial intelligence

EMD-Batimo wanted to fully leverage the potential of artificial intelligence to accelerate its analytics and modeling initiatives. Korem therefore introduced the team to the Alteryx Intelligence Suite, an AI-powered extension of Alteryx Designer offering code-free machine learning, automated text analytics, and computer vision capabilities.

More than a simple add-on, this module enables EMD-Batimo to streamline and speed up the entire modeling process: rapidly iterate on a larger number of experiments, benchmark multiple models within a unified pipeline, and arrive at deeper insights in a fraction of the time previously required.

In addition to advanced modeling tools, the Intelligence Suite also automates key data preparation steps, including data cleansing, missing-value imputation, outlier handling, and feature engineering. These automated workflows not only improve data quality but also free analysts from repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus on higher-value modeling and interpretation.

Convinced by the tangible gains in productivity and analytical performance, EMD-Batimo adopted the module, supported by tailored training provided by Korem to ensure optimal use and long-term value.

“Korem works very well with EMD Batimo in finding solutions and data. What's also important is that we speak the same language, which is geography. Alexandre and Raphaël, our technical advisors at Korem, are always available to offer us solutions when we encounter difficulties.”
